THE University of Algarve welcomes, among October 6 and 9, 2026, the 17th edition of Lusophone Conference on Open Science (ConfOA), the main forum for reflection and sharing on Open Science in the Portuguese-speaking world. This event is organized with the support of Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), through its digital services unit FCCN, from the University of Minho (UM) and of Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (Ibict).  

Recognized as a strategic meeting point for researchers, information professionals, scientific infrastructure managers, and policymakers, ConfOA It promotes debate around policies, practices, and services that promote the openness, transparency, and reuse of scientific knowledge.

Open Science in the Age of Artificial Intelligence 

Under the theme "Open Science in the Age of Artificial Intelligence"The 2026 edition proposes an in-depth analysis of Challenges and opportunities associated with the integration of Artificial Intelligence. (AI) in the production, management, dissemination and evaluation processes of scientific research. 

In an increasingly digital and interconnected scientific ecosystem, the conference invites the community to reflect on issues such as data governance, ethics and scientific integrity, interoperability, copyright, metadata models and standards, as well as the impact of AI on the evaluation of science and the definition of public policies. 

Similar to previous editions, ConfOA reinforces its commitment to best practices in Open Science, maintaining the model of open peer review and the disclosure of the identity of authors and reviewers, promoting greater transparency and accountability in the scientific evaluation process. 

It remains the same requirement to make available the research data associated with the accepted papersthrough depositing data in reliable data repositories that assign persistent identifiers. Call for papers open 

THE The call for papers is open until March 16th., challenging the scientific community to Submit proposals in the various aspects of Open Science.Different formats of participation are accepted — communication, pecha kuchaposter, demonstration, panel, workshop and tutorial — each with specific guidelines regarding the structure and size of submissions.  

Proposals must be submitted through platform ReCAL, which will also ensure the permanent publication of approved works in the communication formats, pecha kucha and poster. All accepted works will also be deposited in the ConfOA community at Zenodo, enhancing their international visibility, preservation, and potential for reuse.

  • June 1st and 2nd – Communication of acceptance results 

ConfOA 2026 thus reaffirms its role as a privileged space for the articulation of Portuguese-speaking community around Open Science, encouraging the adoption of practices aligned with the FAIR principles, transparency in scientific evaluation, and the responsible integration of emerging technologies.
