The 17th edition of the conference CRIS2026 The event took place between May 19th and 22nd in Ponta Delgada, at the University of the Azores, with a positive outcome and strong participation from the community dedicated to science information systems. Throughout the event, the conference brought together... 112 participants, out of a total of 121 registered, participated in the event, which included 20 sessions and featured 6 sponsors with stands.
Organized by euroCRIS, in cooperation with the PTCRISDeveloped by FCCN, the digital services unit of the Foundation for Science and Technology, and with the support of the University of the Azores, CRIS2026 has established itself as an international meeting place for professionals, decision-makers, and experts connected to... Current Research Information Systems.
João Mendes Moreira, area director of FCCN, the digital services unit of FCT, responsible for organizing the event, highlights: “For three days, CRIS2026 brought together some of the leading experts in the field, presenting a Excellent program, creating a unique space for high-quality debate on the future of information systems in research.”
During the event, the 20 sessions allowed for in-depth exploration of key themes for the future of scientific information management, including open science, open infrastructure, interoperability, artificial intelligence, open source, and research evaluation. The conference brought together representatives from research institutions, funding agencies, libraries, information technology specialists, and those responsible for defining scientific policies.
The presence of six sponsors reinforced the sharing and collaboration component of the meeting, creating opportunities for direct contact between participants, organizations, and suppliers of solutions related to the management and dissemination of research information. The sponsoring companies were: 4Science, Digital Science, Elsevier Pure, Osiris Solutions, PGG Academia and Sages.

One of the highlights of CRIS2026 was the awarding of prizes for best article and best posterThe prize Keith Jeffery Best Paper Award, what distinguishes the best scientific article, was assigned to Ils de Bal e Pascale Dengis, from the WEWIS Department of the Flemish Government, for the presentation “Advantages and challenges of gathering data into a regional CRIS: the case of FRISThe prize of The best poster was awarded to Audrey Peek.for the workThe Kosovo Research Information System (KRIS)”, presented on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Kosovo.
Holding the conference in the Autonomous Region of the Azores reinforced Portugal's role, through PTCRIS and FCCN, in promoting open and collaborative digital infrastructures at the service of science.
The conference also helped to highlight the University of the Azores and the city of Ponta Delgada as venues for international initiatives in the field of science, technology and innovation, promoting cooperation between communities and institutions from different countries.
