THE Science, Technology and Society Network (RCTSThis network is a digital infrastructure aimed at the national Higher Education and Research community. Managed by FCCN, the digital services unit of FCT, this network allows institutions within this ecosystem to access approximately 30 digital services, playing an essential role in the areas of computing, collaboration, connectivity, security, and the production of scientific knowledge in Portugal.
A network at the service of science and education.
By connecting Higher Education and Research institutions across the country, RCTS creates a common technological base capable of meeting the growing demands of research, remote collaboration, academic mobility, digital security, and resource sharing.
Currently, the network covers various zones of the continental and insular territory, ensuring the connection of the respective institutions to the national network of science, technology and society.
This infrastructure allows universities, polytechnic institutes, laboratories, research centers, and other scientific entities to be connected to a common network, promoting collaboration between institutions and access to digital resources essential for the development of science and knowledge.
Digital services for the academic and scientific community.
Joining the FCCN network provides access to a range of services covering various areas. In the field of computing, a key service is the one that allows the community to access the main high-performance computing resources available nationally. This is complemented by the OCRE, the Pan-European Framework Agreement for cloud services, among other available resources.
With regard to the area of ConnectivityServices such as the network are available. eduroam, which allows secure internet access in national and international academic and scientific institutions, and, among others, the Fiber, focused on creating customized fiber optic networks, among other services.
In the area of SecurityThe community can rely on solutions such as the FCT's digital security service. CSIRT, developed by FCCN and dedicated to responding to security incidents on the RCTS; the RCTSaai, which functions as a single point of authentication; and the Zelo, dedicated to supporting institutions in complying with the General Data Protection Regulation.
Already integrated into Collaborationsolutions such as the Estúdio, a professional space for the production of multimedia content; the Videocast, which allows the broadcasting of events online; and the FileSender, designed for the secure sharing of large files.
The area of Knowledge integrates services such as b-on — Online Knowledge Library, the NAU, a platform for open and massive online courses, the IAedu, which aims to democratize access to Artificial Intelligence, and the Arquivo.pt, which allows you to search and access web pages preserved since 1996, among other things.

Who can join?
The FCCN network is intended for national Higher Education and Research institutions, including universities, polytechnic institutes, State Laboratories, Associated Laboratories, Research and Development Units and other entities of the National Science and Technology System. The eligibility of other types of entities may be analyzed.

By securing this network, FCCN directly contributes to strengthening the national ecosystem of Higher Education and Research, supporting the digital transformation of institutions and facilitating access to leading technological services.
