Join the next generation of tailor-made cloud agreements for academia.

Since January 2017, FCT|FCCN offers you a range of attractive Infrastructure as a Service cloud solutions, tailor-made, and priced, for academia. These services are made available thanks to a unique pan-European collaboration of the European NRENs, in their association GÉANT. The selected services have been through a rigorous EU compliant tender process. There is no need for institutions to run their own tender procedure. You can access the offerings through ready-to-use agreements under local law. More than 300 institutions in 18 European countries are using these IaaS solutions and have collectively consumed over €14 million. The institutions benefit from reduced costs and support with using cloud services.

The upcoming tenders: more services

The NRENs and GÉANT are preparing the next tenders, which will be launched in October 2019: for IaaS, PaaS and SaaS cloud offerings, Earth Observation services and Learning Management Systems. All these tenders aim to remove obstacles around data privacy, contracting, billing and technical integration and establish special pricing. Ready-to-use service agreements will be available in March 2020.

How to join?

FCT|FCCN will establish a national tender group for Portugal and list all its member institutions in these tenders. This ensures that your institution is automatically eligible to use the agreements which result from the tenders. Being mentioned does not constitute any type of formal commitment for institutions to purchase services. It is simply an expression of interest.

Best conditions of use: register your expected consumption

Besides being listed in the tenders, you are invited to register your plans for using cloud, Earth Observation and Learning Management Systems. If you are planning to buy such services in the next four years, it is beneficial to register your expected consumption. You will then be labelled as a ‘forerunner organisation’, which enables you to benefit from the best conditions of use achieved in the tender.

This month (June 2019), GÉANT and OCRE will make more information and a registration page available. We will keep you up to date on these further steps.
