Over the past few years, the Center for Judicial Studies (CEJ) has uploaded more than 7,000 videos to the Educast platform, providing tens of thousands of minutes of content covering various areas of law. The CEJ's IT and eLearning technician explains why the FCCN unit is investing in this service, detailing some of the key benefits of this connection, which he believes will only grow in depth during the pandemic.

CEJ is currently one of Educast's most prolific users, with hundreds of videos published. How did this use come about?

The initial use of Educast was aligned with CEJ's management strategy of introducing e-learning into its training environment. Along with the implementation of an e-learning platform and the creation of several e-books, there was also a need to find a video platform to host much of the in-person training that CEJ provides each year.

What features of the Educast service make it interesting for these purposes? What do you think are its main strengths?

Of all its features, we must highlight the quick editing and availability of videos, as well as the ability to do so online on any computer. This allows us to streamline and much better manage our daily work. As we know, video remains one of the richest media, but also one of the most demanding in terms of processing and editing. Educast allows us to transform a previously daunting task into something simple and fast.

The content published by CEJ also enriches the Educast portal. How would you classify the collection of videos about Law that are thus made available to the general public? Are there any examples you'd like to highlight?

At this point, given the size of the archive already registered by the CEJ, it's difficult to single out just one piece of content. The true richness of our video archive isn't measured solely by the number of views, but rather by the usefulness of each video in the legal community's work. As an analogy, we can say that the videos serve as a collection of legal textbooks that can be used whenever necessary.

How do you foresee the evolution of the relationship between CEJ and Educast?

Given the exceptional times we currently face with the pandemic, I believe CEJ's relationship with Educast will only grow stronger. While the use of new media in training was already natural, it now becomes inevitable, with the need for means of providing synchronous and asynchronous content remotely. And, in this last regard, Educast is king!
