Arquivo.pt: Memories of April 25th on the Internet is the name of the initiative carried out by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), in partnership with  Commemorative Commission 50 years of April 25th , and which is part of the celebrations of 50 years of Democracy.

THE Arquivo.pt, a digital service of the FCT, developed through the FCCN, which preserves archived information from the web since 1996, launches this online Exhibition called “Arquivo.pt: Memories of April 25th on the Internet”, which describes important points in the history of democracy, through a timeline of the last 27 years.

The exhibition aims to promote the historical legacy associated with the Carnation Revolution, contributing to its preservation and understanding. It presents itself as a journey through time, taking you through old internet pages and reliving moments in national history.

Additionally, it provides a list of other pages about April 25th. In some cases, these are fragments and incomplete memories, but they nonetheless constitute a window into the past. The criteria for selecting the pages to be included in the exhibition were based on the selection of content related to April 25th commemorations, pages found on Arquivo.pt on dates close to each year, a search for diversity to include different regions of the country, and pages on popular demonstrations and official ceremonies.

Exhibition highlights

The milestones highlighted in the exhibition begin in 1997, with the Associação 25 de Abril page, where you can access the message from the President of the Association and which April celebrations were held that year.

Other archived pages now included in the initiative include the National Library's commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the revolution, with a timeline and corresponding intervention movements. Added to this are pages from national newspapers such as Público, Correio da Manhã, and A Verdade, featuring news about April 25th celebrations over the years.
