THE RCAAP (Open Access Scientific Repositories of Portugal), a digital service of the Foundation for Science and Technology, developed by FCCN and in collaboration with the University of Minho, has reached a new milestone: there are already more than 400 aggregated national resources. This achievement reinforces the role of RCAAP as a national infrastructure for sharing and preservation of Portuguese scientific production, dedicated to the dissemination of scientific knowledge in Open Access.

Achievement arises from joint efforts of the Teaching and Research ecosystem

The new achievement reflects the growth of the national network of institutional repositories, Open Access scientific journals and other digital platforms for scientific dissemination, as well as the efforts and active collaboration of higher education institutions, research units, and scientific publishers, who contribute daily to the visibility and accessibility of national scientific production. This collaborative ecosystem has been essential to strengthening Open Science, contributing to compliance with national and international guidelines.

This greater diversity of aggregated resources allows for greater visibility of national scientific production, facilitating access to information for researchers, students, and the general public. Thus, each aggregated resource represents another step in the collective mission of making knowledge more accessible, interoperable, and visible—not only nationally, but also internationally, through connections to OpenAIRE and other global networks.

Since its creation in 2008, RCAAP has been consolidating itself as a central point in the Open Science strategy in Portugal, promoting interoperability between institutional repositories, scientific journals, and other digital platforms. With over one million documents aggregated in total, it centralizes access to national scientific production, including articles, theses, dissertations, and scientific communications.
