Service provided by RCAAP - Open Access Scientific Repositories of Portugal recorded "very encouraging numbers" in the first quarter of 2022.

The Common Repository, a service provided by RCAAP, reached more than 34 thousand documents in the first quarter of 2022. This is a repository aimed at institutions of the national scientific system which do not have their own institutional repository, allowing them to give visibility to their own institution and scientific production, ensure easy access to scientific content and preserve their production.

Through this service managed by the Unit FCCN , researchers can store and make accessible their scientific output (published articles, papers accepted and published at conferences, doctoral theses and master's dissertations approved at the institution, among others).

According to data from the Directorate-General for Education and Science Statistics (DGEEC), at the end of the same period, the overall compliance rate for the deposit of theses and dissertations in the Common Repository reached 83.16%

This figure highlights the importance that the Common Repository assumes with respect to the legal deposit of Theses and Dissertations.

With 90 member institutions, the Common Repository has seen a very significant growth in the number of downloads over the last decade. 2021 was even the year that registered the record number in this particular regard, with about 3 million downloads.

In its blog, RCAAP classifies these numbers as "very encouraging", considering that this is "a shared service", highlighting the "commitment of each of the institutions". You can learn more about the Common Repository at: https://comum.rcaap.pt/
