FCCN, the FCT's digital services unit, is once again present at Science meeting, which this year takes place between July 9th and 11th, in Carcavelos, on the NOVA SBE Campus, with the theme “Science, Innovation and Society”. The event is the main national platform for sharing scientific and technological knowledge, bringing together researchers, decision-makers, and public and private entities at national and international levels. 

The impact of Artificial Intelligence on Science is one of the topics to be discussed 

In this edition, FCCN will host sessions dedicated to topics essential to the advancement of research and science in Portugal, reinforcing its role in promoting innovation and knowledge in the country. 

On July 9th, at 4:30 pm, at Atrium Hovione, the plenary session “AI4Science: and the Tools for the Science of the Future”, which aims to promote a multidisciplinary and critical reflection on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on scientific research, through a balanced approach between the technological potential and the social and political challenges that accompany it.   

The session will be attended by representatives and experts from various institutions. Helena Machado, researcher at CIES/ISCTE-IUL will be the keynote speaker. The round table features the expert Mario Figueiredo, Full Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico, João Magalhães, Professor at NOVA FCT and principal investigator at NOVA LINCS, Goreti Marreiro, Principal Coordinating Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, Hugo Penedones, Co-founder and CTO of Inductive and with Paulo Dimas, CEO of the Center for Responsible AI.  

On the second day, Filipa Pereira, FCT research data manager in the FCCN digital services unit, is one of the speakers at the session “Andstrategies and tools for Open Data practices in Portugal”, which takes place in Amphitheater B011, at 2:30 pm.  

July 11th, FCCN also promotes a parallel session called “More Science, More Digital”, which will begin at 3:35 pm in Amphitheater B002. Dedicated to digital transition in higher education and research, at the moment we intend to make a A journey through national resources that are innovating the way science is done, with a focus on FCT services, developed by FCCN, for the academic and scientific community.  

Also on July 11th, at 11:30 am, João Mendes Moreira and Miguel Andrade, area directors of FCCN, take the stage for the parallel session “Open Science and Open Access: practices and policies”, reflecting on the foundations of Open Science and exploring the different models of Open Access publishing.

FCCN is once again present at the Science and Technology Exhibition, a space that will allow participants to connect with entities linked to science and technology.  

When visiting the stand 3, from FCCN, you can find out more about the digital services that reach the community daily, carrying out this year a quiz which will allow researchers to know your profile and your connection to digital, and you can also win personalized gifts. 

Organized by Foundation for Science and Technology and by the National Agency for Scientific Culture LIVING SCIENCE, with the close collaboration of NOVA University of Lisbon and with the institutional support of Ministry of Education, Science and InnovationThe event features a diverse program, including more than 50 sessions and approximately 200 speakers. It aims to reflect the best science, technology, and innovation in Portugal and internationally, and is expected to attract more than 2,000 participants.
