THE 2nd PUB IN Meeting: Journals and Scientific Communication for Open Science announced the program for this year's edition. Thematic panels and discussion of emerging themes, sessions flash talks, workshops technicians and presentations of experiences are some of the highlights for the days March 26th and 27th.

This event organized by FCCN, digital services of Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and by University of Minho heads to the north of the country for its second edition, in Catholic University of Portugal, in Porto.

For two days, the national publishing community will come together to develop technical skills, capitalize on knowledge and practices, and promote the sharing of best practices. 

Initiative brings together national and international speakers on scientific communication for Open Science 

On the first day, the thematic panel “Diamond Open Access: Action Lines for Portugal”, which has the keynote speaker Pierre Mounier, co-coordinator of OPERAS, co-coordinator of EEuropean Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH) and co-director of Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB). 

This session, moderated by Pedro Príncipe, from the University of Minho, still gathers in debate João Mendes Moreira, area director of FCCN, Delfim Leão, Vice-Rector for Culture and Open Science of the University of Coimbra, Susana Costa, of the University of Minho, and Tereza Barroso, director of the Nursing Reference magazine, from the Coimbra School of Nursing

The afternoon of March 26th begins with the session of Flash Talks 1, followed by the moment “20 years of SciELO Portugal: history, impact and future”, which has several sessions and spokespersons:

  • 3:30 PM - 4:15 PM | SciELO Portugal – Genesis and Construction”: with the participation of Paula Meireles and Paula Carvalho, from FCT, Cristiana Agapito, from the Directorate-General for Education and Science Statistics (DGEEC), Carlos Lopes, from ISPA – University Institute, and Rui Santos, from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at NOVA University of Lisbon.
  • 4:30pm-5:00pm | Impact and Relevance”: moderated by João Azevedo, Vice-President of the SciELO Portugal Advisory Committee, brings together Solange Santos, from SciELO Brazil, Marta Gomes, editorial coordinator of the Cadernos do Arquivo Municipal magazine, and João Mendes Moreira.
  • 5:00 PM - 5:30 PM | “The Future and the Challenges”: moderated by Paula Carvalho and with interventions by Abel Packer, from SciELO Brazil, Francisco Santos, Vice-President of the FCT Board of Directors, and Eloy Rodrigues, Director of Documentation and Library Services at the University of Minho.

The second and final day of the meeting, March 27, begins with session of Flash Talks 2, followed by several workshops running in parallel:

  • SciELO Portugal
  • Innovations in Scientific Publishing
  • Good practices in Scientific Publishing 

The afternoon begins with a round table dedicated to the theme “Artificial Intelligence – challenges for research results and scientific publication”, with the presence of Peter Hanenberg, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at the Catholic University of Portugal, and of Celia Manaia, from the Catholic University of Portugal

THE 2nd PUB IN Meeting ends with the thematic panel “PRC – Publish, Review and Curate”, conducted by Eloy Rodrigues, followed by the closing session. The program can be consulted in full on the event website.
