Arquivo.pt – FCT’s digital service, developed by FCCN – made its services known to the international community through DPC Awards.

THE Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is an international consortium dedicated to promoting digital preservation and its best practices. This organization promotes DPC Awards, an event that publicizes and promotes exemplary and innovative use cases from all over the world.

The digital service Arquivo.pt submitted two applications to the DPC Awards 2024, in the categories of Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy (award for safeguarding digital heritage) and Award for Research and Innovation (award for research and innovation).

Arquivo.pt's catalog of tools for digital preservation

The information that governs modern life is born digitally and is disseminated online. However, priceless digital objects published online have been irretrievably lost.

Arquivo.pt is a public infrastructure that preserves digital objects published online, to safeguard this digital legacy for future generations.

In October 2023, after 15 years of research and development, Arquivo.pt launched a Catalog of 13 innovative tools to support content preservation online at risk, from its acquisition to its dissemination (e.g. research and access, APIs, training, open datasets or exhibitions).

Searching for preserved images from the web

The images published online are precious digital artifacts that document the contemporary era for future generations. Arquivo.pt has developed a innovative image search system that allows the discovery and access to billions of preserved images of the web since the 1990s. This image search service, unique in the world, is available to any Internet user. resulting scientific publications are available in open access and the developed software is published in the free open source projects to be reused and improved by the community. A service from Portugal to the world

THE Arquivo.pt is an online preservation service. This digital resource is increasingly being used in scientific studies by researchers from other countries. This international visibility is due to the fact that Arquivo.pt preserves content in several languages—for example, about 2019 European Elections -, and for being innovative in the services it provides for research and access to preserved information.

A researcher, from anywhere in the world, can search texts, images or train Artificial Intelligence models based on the historical information preserved by Arquivo.pt.
