THE PTCRIS, the digital service of the Foundation for Science and Technology, through its FCCN unit, has been... to consolidate its strategy of interoperability and transparency in the management of scientific information., using a new system.
Integration with Crossref Grant Linking System (GLS) It allows you to associate funding metadata with other elements of the scientific ecosystem, such as projects, researchers, institutions, and publications.
This initiative responds to the principle of PTCRIS "Register once, reuse forever", promoting an integrated and open ecosystem. By adopting persistent identifiers for funding, it is possible to ensure greater consistency and traceability of data, facilitating the monitoring of research impact and compliance with Open Access policies.
This was one of the topics discussed in interview with Cátia Laranjeira, manager of PRCRIS, a digital service of FCT, developed by FCCN, to the blog on the website of Crossref, included in this organization's series of case studies on institutions that use the Grant Linking System.
Integration with the Crossref Grant Linking System
Integration with GLS complements the work already developed by PTCRIS in the management of identifiers (ORCID, ISNI, DOI) and in the creation of infrastructures such as the SciPROJ, which aggregates information on scientific funding in Portugal.
Cátia Laranjeira, the service manager, states, “This type of information system It is only truly effective when many entities use it....to register funding metadata and create links between objects. And it's a simple process to implement. Once the mapping between the metadata schema and the institution's internal data is done, there are no major technical challenges. In our case, the The process is fully automated and flows efficiently.since The registration of the funding up to the communication of this information to the beneficiaries..“
Since the pilot program held in 2023, with more than 6,000 financings registeredFCCN has been to automate the registration process and explore new ways of linking funding to scientific results.
This effort contributes to a strategic objective of To ensure that information about science in Portugal is complete, interoperable, and aligned with international best practices., reinforcing the national position in promoting Open Science and transparency.
