From October 23rd to 26th, approximately 150 secondary and vocational school students will visit the National Scientific Computing Unit of the Foundation for Science and Technology as part of "FCCN Open Week." Students highlight opportunities for growth.
On Monday morning, 24 11th-grade Science and Technology students from Santa Maria Secondary School in Sintra were the first to participate in FCCN Open Week. This initiative by the Foundation for National Scientific Computing (FCCN) has been running since 2019 and aims to "provide an inside look at the technology sector, exploring spaces, resources, and professions."
These activities also aim to “to encourage students to eventually work in this area and, particularly, at FCCN” and “to raise awareness of the services that FCCN provides to future university students”, shares the Marketing and Communications service manager of the FCCN Unit, Joana Silvério.
During the morning, students visited the auditorium, where they took a quiz to test their knowledge of FCCN and the world of technology, followed by guided tours of the Studios and Data Center. The tour concluded with a presentation about FCCN and its various services, and students had the opportunity to clarify any questions they had in an open question-and-answer session.
For 16-year-old Pedro Santos, this visit to the FCCN Unit was “interesting”, especially because of opportunity to visit the FCCN StudioFor the student, the tools this structure provides will be "quite useful" in his future as a student. Through this visit, he adds, he was able to familiarize himself with the world of technology and higher education. “It was an interesting visit and it gave us a different point of view”That's how 16-year-old Mariana Luísa described her visit to the FCCN Unit.
