Developed over the last three years, the Fernão de Magalhães Digital Platform is a repository for different types of knowledge associated with the legacy of the first Circumnavigation voyage and the Portuguese navigator.
The FCCN Unit has been involved in the initiative from the very beginning, providing the support infrastructure for the creation of this platform. Now, as the project enters its final phase, content aggregated by the Fernão de Magalhães Digital Platform was integrated into the Arquivo.pt Memorial and made available to the general public here.
The Fernão de Magalhães Digital Platform was developed by the Mission Structure for the Commemorations of the 5th Centenary of the Circumnavigation commanded by Portuguese navigator Fernão de Magalhães | 2019-2022 (EMCFM) to preserve the cultural and scientific legacy associated with the expedition. It offers six thematic chapters and three open chapters with diverse content developed or added in the context of the implementation of the official program for the 5th Centenary of the Circumnavigation celebrations.
The Arquivo.pt Memorial is part of the Arquivo.pt and offers high-quality preservation of content from websites that are no longer updated.”The Arquivo.pt Memorial is an innovative service unique in the world”, highlighted the manager of Arquivo.pt, Daniel Gomes, in a interview published in July 2022.
By using this service, it is possible for institutions to reduce security vulnerabilities, maintenance costs and even the associated ecological footprint.
