RCAAP – Open Access Scientific Repositories in Portugal has created a website that publicizes activities throughout the country that are linked to the international Open Access week.
It is from www.acessolivre.pt that the RCAAP organizes the Open Access Week 2020 celebrations. This is the website that brings together all the activities and useful information related to this International Open Access Week, which runs from October 19th to 25th.
At the address, it is possible to follow the events organized by the 11 participating higher education institutions and find information about this international initiative, as well as its promotional material.
This International Open Access Week or Open Access Week 2020 it is an initiative SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) looking for “disseminate Open Access to knowledge”, explains RCAAP, on this portal.
To this end, the week encourages institutional repositories and scientific journal publications to provide scientific content and educational resources linked to the theme “Planning equitable foundations for Open Knowledge”, as well as the to dynamize initiatives such as debates, conferences, etc…
What is Open Access?
Remember that the Open Access model consists of a international movement that seeks to guarantee free and open access to academic information (such as publications and data). The definition of an Open Access publication therefore implies the absence of financial, technical, or legal barriers to access.
The principles of this movement were founded on the “Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities”, signed in 2003, which can be consulted here.
