Developed over the past three years, the Ferdinand Magellan Digital Platform is a repository for different types of knowledge associated with the legacy of the first Circum-Navigation voyage and the Portuguese navigator.

The FCCN Unit was involved in the initiative from the very first moment, through the provision of the support infrastructure for the creation of this platform. Now, as the project enters its conclusion phase, the contents aggregated by the Fernão de Magalhães Digital Platform have been integrated in the Arquivo.pt Memorial and made available to the general public here.

The Ferdinand Magellan Digital Platform was developed by the Mission Structure for the Commemorations of the V Centenary of the Circum-Navigation led by the Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan | 2019-2022 (EMCFM) to preserve the cultural and scientific legacy associated with the expedition. It provides six thematic chapters and three open chapters with various contents developed or aggregated in the context of the implementation of the official program of the V Centenary Celebrations of Circum-Navigation.

The Archive.pt Memorial is part of Arquivo .pt and offers high-quality preservation of the content of websites that are no longer updated. "The Archive.pt Memorial is an innovative service unique in the world", stressed the manager of Arquivo.pt, Daniel Gomes, in an interview published in July 2022.

By using this service, institutions can reduce security vulnerabilities, maintenance costs, and the associated ecological footprint.
