The launch of the Arquivo.pt 2019 Award took place yesterday at the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic. 

The second edition of the Arquivo.pt Award was launched in a nearly full auditorium. The event featured a speech by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who highlighted the award as "extremely important" and "an invitation to innovation."

For the President of the Republic, there is also "a pedagogical component to this Award," as it entails "a social and community benefit." "It's a good time for this Award to continue its journey," he added, guaranteeing support for the initiative.

Earlier, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, highlighted the symbolism of this session as a way to bring different institutions together. Regarding the 2019 Arquivo.pt Award, he recalled its value as a stimulus for "research and investigation work" on this resource.

The session also featured a presentation by the Manager of Arquivo.pt, Daniel Gomes, who presented this service from the National Scientific Computing Unit of the Foundation for Science and Technology, as well as the Award, which is now in its second edition.

It should be noted that the Arquivo.pt 2019 Award aims to distinguish innovative and/or useful uses for society of the Portuguese web archive preserved on Arquivo.pt, with a total of 15 thousand euros in prizes.

Applications are open until May 3rd, requiring the submission of a job description (up to 2000 words) and a short video (maximum three minutes long).
