Advanced Computing

Advanced Computing (AC) aims to provide advanced computing services to the research, technology, innovation and industrial communities.

Advanced Computing seeks to aggregate national advanced computing resources, promoting cooperation between the various centers involved and developing national and international partnerships with other entities.

The service also manages the National Competence Center (NCC) in EuroCC 2 Project, which integrates several entities that provide their experience and capabilities in supporting the adoption and use of HPC technologies and training in the area.

Who is it intended for?

Interested parties should apply for Advanced Computing resources through the open calls published on the FCT website. For questions about accessing or directly contracting advanced computing services, please contact computacao-avancada@fccn.pt . The following candidates may apply for Advanced Computing:

  • Higher education institutions, their institutes and R&D (Research and Development) units;
  • State or international laboratories based in Portugal;
  • Private non-profit institutions whose main objective is R&D activities;
  • Other public and private, non-profit institutions that develop or participate in scientific research activities;
  • Companies of any nature and under any legal form

Events and Training

The Advanced Computing Meeting is held annually, bringing together users, technicians, and partners to discuss new developments and develop the national HPC ecosystem. The 5th Meeting will be held on October 22 and 23, 2025, at the University of Aveiro.

CNCA

The National Center for Advanced Computing – CNCA – (formerly INCD) was created with the purpose of managing, framing, monitoring and promoting efforts to implement new Advanced Computing initiatives in Portugal, in order to realize the benefits that result from them for the research and innovation communities.
