It was in 2023 that Margarida Prozil, Head of Data at Data CoLAB, participated for the first time in the National Meeting on Advanced Computing, event that brings together researchers, technicians and decision-makers to promote collaboration and development in the field of Advanced Computing, and which is organized by FCCN, FCT's digital services, and supported by Recovery and Resilience Plan.

In order to share her experience in this initiative, Margarida answered some questions about the edition she participated in, revealing her expectations for the 4th Meeting, which will take place from November 5th to 6th, at the University of Beira Interior.

“It was an excellent opportunity to familiarize myself with the advances and application of advanced computing in different scientific areas”, he began by saying.

How important is this event for Advanced Computing in Portugal?

In my opinion, this event provides a space for sharing knowledge and experiences between different areas and institutions that use these resources. Furthermore, the event fosters networking, allowing the creation of a network of contacts and collaboration between professionals from different sectors.

One of the biggest highlights, in my opinion, was realizing the state of the art of advanced computing in the country, how we are following international trends and how Data CoLAB can contribute to the development of advanced computing in Portugal.

What do you consider to have been the highlights?

What struck me most about the 2023 edition was the sharing of information on how various fields and institutions are using advanced computing to advance their research and projects.

It was interesting to see how this type of technology is being used in such diverse areas, but also to understand the difficulties that often arise in transferring knowledge and technology to companies and the market.

In my opinion, it was evident that a major challenge that we still have to overcome so that advanced computing can have a broader impact in Portugal.

What do you expect from the next edition?

I believe this will be an excellent opportunity to continue monitoring the progress of advanced computing in our country.

It's always interesting to see practical examples of how this technology is applied, as it allows us to better understand the real impact that advanced computing can have in various areas. I hope the event continues to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration between academia and industry, so that we can move forward more effectively.
