The 5th Advanced Computing Meeting took place on the days October 22nd and 23rd, 2025in Aveiro, bringing together researchers, technicians and science managers from all over the country for two days of sharing and debating national resources for advanced computing.

Common Record of 150 registrations and 106 in-person participants.This annual event is establishing itself as the main regular meeting point for the community of users of FCT's Advanced Computing services, promoted through FCCN. This year, it had the close support of... University of Aveiro and with sponsorship from Comudel and the João Dias de Sousa, which enriched the exhibitors' area with a demonstration of a quantum computer for teaching.

From hands-on workshops to presentations of success stories.

THE  event program It hosted 28 speakers and was fully completed, including two workshops on the morning of the first day. The first, dedicated to initial steps in an advanced computing infrastructure, from configuration and authentication to submission of jobs. The importance of initiatives such as the European Master's in HPC, EuroCC, and the HPC portal was also mentioned for those wishing to learn more about these topics. The second workshop presented two practical tools: EasyBuild, which simplifies the installation and management of modules in... Deucalion, a supercomputer funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and a new tool developed by the Deucalion team for creating containers Optimized Python and Conda environments, improving performance in parallel file systems.  

There were also sessions dedicated to success stories of projects supported by HPC resources managed by the FCT's Advanced Computing services and CNCA, as well as technical presentations on new initiatives, competitions and other access routes, and best practices for use. Special mention goes to the 4 panels on EuroCC, Technical Support, Quantum Computing and AI Factories.

The meeting included the participation of a representative from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), who revealed the state of the art of... MareNostrum 5The session highlighted the opportunities for collaboration and the impact of this system on scientific and technological research at the European level, the latest generation European supercomputer in whose infrastructure Portugal participates with 5%. 

One of the highlights was... Celebrating a historic milestone: surpassing 1000 supported projects. in the Advanced Computing Projects Competitions (CPCA) of the FCT, since the launch of this initiative. 

The social component provided opportunities for interaction among the participants.

Taking advantage of the best that the city of Aveiro has to offer, participants enjoyed a moliceiro boat trip and a convivial dinner, which strengthened community ties and fostered an atmosphere of collaboration and informal sharing.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of national ecosystem of Advanced Computing with the support for science and innovationand reinforced the role of National Center for Advanced Computing as a renewed pillar of European cooperation in the field, notably through participation in the EuroHPC network and European initiatives such as AI Factories and the EuroCC2 project.
