Service Manager
The Pix service is the Internet Exchange Point promoted and operated by FCCN, FCT's digital services – an Internet Exchange Point is a neutral traffic exchange point between different organizations, with the mission of allowing multiple IP networks to interconnect more efficiently.
Pix improves the quality of IP network interconnection in Portugal and avoids the use of international resources for the transit of IP packets originating and destined for Portugal.
Without an infrastructure like Pix, traffic originating and destined for nearby geographic locations would often have to cross borders, making communication less efficient (and more expensive).
Cost reduction for participating networks is one of Pix's main advantages, but we can also add reduced latency (delay). Pix makes local communications faster.
FEATURES
GigaPIX is an evolution of PIX (Portuguese Internet eXchange) created in September 1995. The name change took place in 2001 and reflects the fact that the infrastructure now has ports with Gigabit capacity.
FCCN currently makes GigaPIX available to dozens of networks, distributed across data centers in Lisbon and Porto, with individual ports of 100Gbps, 10Gbps, 1Gbps and 100Mbps
