Aurora Vasconcelos, a master's student in Cybersecurity at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, is the Portuguese student chosen to take the stage at the TNC25. Organized by GEANT, in 2025, the event will take place in the city of Brighton, in the United Kingdom, between June 9th and 13th.

To present your work at largest annual networking conference, Aurora responded to the Lightning Talks challenge. In Portugal, this project is held annually promoted by FCCN, the digital services unit of the Foundation for Science and Technology, and is aimed at all higher education students nationwide who are interested in presenting their work at TNC.

Before the event, the student went through a mentoring and training program, where, together with students from all over Europe, he received specialized support in preparing his presentation and tutoring to develop his public speaking skills.

A project in 5 minutes

On June 11th, at 4:05 pm, Aurora Vasconcelos' intervention will be entitled “Zero trust for NRENs: because even your network lies”.

In 5 minutes, and through a disruptive approach, she will explain the concept of Zero Trust, which, according to her, follows the principle "Never trust, always verify", not limiting itself to reacting to threats, but rather proactively preparing defenses to minimize data.

More than 20 other European students presented their projects during this year's two Lightning Talks sessions.
