RCTS – The Science, Technology and Society Network – is the national education and research network, also known as NREN (National Research and Education Network) internationally.

Managed and operated by FCCN, the RCTS is the unit of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) responsible for national scientific computing, and offers researchers, teachers, and students a high-performance digital infrastructure to support projects on a national and international level.

If you’re accessing this web page through a university or a national laboratory, it is very likely you are already using one of the connectivity services provided by RCTS.

Higher education institutions, scientific research organizations, observatories, laboratories, scientific and medical research institutes, music conservatories and art academies, libraries, museums and other science and education related entities, are examples of entities targetted by RCTS.

As the Portuguese NREN, RCTS is integrated into the GÉANT network, a Pan-European communications infrastructure through which advanced services to the national education and research networks of European countries are provided.

Connection to the GÉANT network is a key factor in the interconnection of the scientific community with its counterparts in Europe and other regions of the world, making RCTS a privileged channel for international cooperation.
