The European Joint Undertaking for High-Performance Computing has signed contracts for the installation of future European supercomputers. One of them (Deucalion) will strengthen Portugal's capabilities in this area.

Deucalion will be installed by the end of 2020 and will have the ability to execute 10 billion operations per secondThe installation of this supercomputer is part of a proposal led by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), part of the EuroHPC – European High Performance Computing initiative, and will result in a boost to Portugal's computing capacity.

EuroHPC seeks to converge European resources for the installation of high-end supercomputers for the processing of big data in several European countries. The objective is to position Europe as a leader in the field of supercomputing, so that European researchers and scientists can access world-class resources.

This is one of the examples of initiatives aligned with the Axis 5 – Research of INCoDe.2030, which is also part of the preparation context for National Strategy for Advanced Computing, the Advanced Computing Portugal 2030.
