FCCN Unit Service launches a new HTML5 video editor that replaces the previous flash version and introduces new features.

The Educast service has just launched the beta version of new HTML5 video editor. This tool now uses technologies web standard such as HTML5, CSS and JavaScript, thus replacing the previous version developed in Flash.

With the release of the new video editor, Educast users can now edit videos directly on the browser, without the need to install proprietary software. On its website, Educast also highlights that this solution “offers a set of new features, in a more flexible and intuitive environment”.

In addition to the aforementioned use of technologies web standard and a new one layout of content presentation, the new Educast editor allows, for example, customize video metadata (title, subtitle, presenter, date, location), edit videos with one or two sources simultaneously (video and slides) and create chapters for key moments, as well as customize branding (header image and cover image).

The start of the development of the new Educast video editor had the collaboration of a group of students from the Master's degree in Information Systems at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança. This work was part of a partnership with the institution and was part of the curricular evaluation of the subjects of “multimedia application development” and “information systems architecture”. The completion of the work, implementation and final integration into the service was carried out internally by the FCCN Unit team.
