The FCCN Conference is approaching, and over the next few weeks, we'll be sharing testimonials from our community about the importance of this gathering. Find out what the conference participants think about this annual gathering, hosted by the FCCN Unit.
Tiago Guedes, Coordinator of the Scientific Information Management Unit at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, shares his expectations for the 2023 edition of the Conference.
“What do the FCCN Conferences mean to me?”
The FCCN conferences are the annual meeting point between the teams at higher education institutions responsible for managing scientific information and institutional repositories within the RCAAP network and the FCCN support and development team. They provide an annual forum for updating and discussing ideas between the FCCN and the HEI community, enabling institutions to understand strategic options in terms of roadmap of the FCCN, in order to internally plan technological and political transitions in each institution.
“Why FCCN Conferences are important”
They allow HEIs to define an internal calendar for implementing and modifying processes related to scientific information management (PTCRIS) and institutional repositories (RCAAP network). They are also important as an annual meeting point for the entire national community in this area, serving as the main and, ideally, sole forum for understanding the regulatory body's strategic options in these areas.
“What are my expectations for the 2023 edition?”
The main expectations for this year are related to the definition of the implementation schedule for Dspace 7 in institutions with independent central management CRIS systems, which will result in a technological update of the interoperabilities in force with the still Dspace 5.5 version.
It will also be interesting to gather the latest developments on the Pólen project, and its alignment with the European Commission's policy, the new MCES vision, and any planned developments in the area of Scientific Information Management.
