THE Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), through its digital services unit FCCN, begins, from September 10th, to 6th edition of the Advanced Computing Projects Competition, providing applications for all types of access: A0 – Experimental Access, A1 – Access Development, A2 – Regular Access and A3 – Larger Access.
Objectives and scope
This competition promotes access to advanced high-performance computing resources for the scientific and innovation community in Portugal, helping to accelerate projects in multiple scientific and technological areas. The resources available include national and European supercomputers, including Deucalion and the MareNostrum 5, infrastructures that are part of the EuroHPC network and that are financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Access typologies
- A0 – Experimental Access (up to 6 months): intended for teams with no previous experience or who want to have their first contact with the systems.
- A1 – Access Development (3 to 12 months): for performance, scalability and code optimization testing.
- A2 – Regular Access (12 months): aimed at teams with consolidated experience in using advanced computing resources.
- A3 – Larger Access (12 months): reserved for large-scale projects with very high computational needs.
As in previous editions, the competition aims to enlarge and democratize access to cutting-edge computing resources, supporting everything from emerging teams to large-scale projects. This edition maintains its commitment to access diversity, reinforcing Portugal's integration into the European supercomputing network and promoting the efficient use of available infrastructure.
Information session on October 10th
To support interested candidates, a online information session on October 10th, where the details of the competition will be presented and any questions about the application process will be clarified.
All information about deadlines, regulations and supporting documents is available at FCT portal, on the page dedicated to the competition. The first batch of applications will be open until November 10th, with 4 more lots planned in later phases.
Learn more at the Advanced Computing Meeting
On October 22nd and 23rd the 5th Advanced Computing Meeting, in the building of the Rectorate of the University of Aveiro, where it will be possible to obtain more information about the competition.
