"The role of supercomputers in the digital transition and in the competitiveness of organizations and companies" is the motto of the initiative by IAPMEI, the University of Minho and the Foundation for Science and Technology. The meeting will take place on May 22, starting at 2pm, at the University of Minho.  

This Open Knowledge Day aims to inform and sensitize the business community, especially SMEs, to the potential of supercomputers in the green and digital transition, as well as the mechanisms of this technology

The aim is also to discuss the development of artificial intelligence models that are compatible with the European strategy to promote competitiveness, materialized in the more effective and accelerated launch of more innovative and technologically sophisticated products. 

Highlights of the program

Professor Francisco Santos, vice-president of the Foundation for Science and Technology, will take the stage at the opening session of the initiative, along with Eugénio Campos Ferreira, vice-rector of the University of Minho and Luís Guerreiro, president of IAPMEI - Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation, I.P.  

At 2.35 p.m., he will present the Deucalion Supercomputer, a joint project between the FCT, developed through FCCN, and the European joint venture EuroHPC.  

The event will also see a tour of the facilities of what is Portugal's fastest ever supercomputer. Installed at the University of Minho, it is currently accessible to the entire academic community, companies and public administration.  

João Nuno Ferreira, general coordinator of FCCN, FCT's digital services, will also be present at the event, taking part in the round table at 15:15. The theme of this event is "The role of supercomputers in the digital transition and in the competitiveness of companies and organizations" and will also include the participation of Luís Sarmento, from Inductiva AI, and António Sousa, from the University of Minho.
