António Ferreira, a student at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), has been selected to participate in the largest annual conference for academic networks – TNC19. His presentation, on Machine Learning, will be part of the Lightning Talks competition.
In 2019, GÉANT and the FCCN Unit once again invited Portuguese students in the IT and Networks fields to participate in the largest and most prestigious annual academic networks conference, TNC, through the Lightning Talks Challenge.
The opportunity offered consists of sharing with TNC19 participants of the subjects they study or of the relevant activities in the area of technology that take place on the campus of their higher education institution.
Four applications were received from students, of which three were selected by the FCCN Unit team.
After several meetings and training on how to present in public, student António Ferreira, from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) was selected by the GEANT team, with the presentation proposal entitled “Use of Community Machine Learning to identify forest and agricultural species”, to represent Portugal. Participation is scheduled for the day June 17th, at 2:00 pm.
The participation of António Ferreira marks UTAD's return to the TNC stage, after students from the same educational institution, Jorge Mendes and José Brito, were selected in 2018.
TNC19 will take place in Tallinn, Estonia, from June 16 to 20. The last edition had more than 750 participants. To learn more about Lightning Talks, you can visit: https://tnc19.geant.org/submission-guidelines-2/
