On February 16th, the Ciência Viva Center will host the event “Inauguration of the New Generation RCTS“, which marks the end of the RCTS100 project.

Over the past five years, the RCTS100 project strengthened the technological infrastructure of the national higher education, research, and innovation system. On the day February 16th, in Lisbon, a celebratory event will be held to mark the official closing of the project and the official inauguration of a national New Generation teaching and research network.

The RCTS100 project was completed at the end of 2022, after the expansion of the fiber optic infrastructure and the technological upgrade of the Science, Technology and Society Network (RCTS) were guaranteed. These improvements made it possible mitigate existing connectivity asymmetries within the national territory and also internally train the internal networks of nine public higher education institutions.

The event aims to bring together the different participants in the Project, inaugurate the New Generation RCTS and celebrate the technological update of the internal networks of nine higher education institutions.

This meeting begins at 9:00 am, in the José Mariano Gago Auditorium, at the Ciência Viva Center, and has several activities throughout the day.

The RCTS100 project involved a total investment of €17 million, €13 million of which came from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The project is being promoted under the Operational Technical Assistance Programme (POAT), part of the European Structural Investment Funds (ESIF).
