The European Communications Infrastructure Initiative will support projects carried out by educational or research institutions. Applications are now open.

Last month, GÉANT announced the opening of applications for its latest innovation support initiative – the GÉANT Innovation Programme. Under this competition, the European infrastructure of national education and research networks invites all institutions linked to its community to submit a project proposal to be financed.

In total, the GÉANT Innovation Program represents an investment of 300 thousand euros, with each project eligible for funding of up to €30,000 for a period of nine months. All proposals related to areas or themes related to the GÉANT community will be accepted. such as networks, cybersecurity or education.

“We particularly encourage the submission of proposals that demonstrate a significant social or scientific impact and that create benefits for the European GÉANT education and research community,” explains the organization, which gives the example of some solutions created within this network: eduroam, eduVPN or eduMEET.

GÉANT also highlights the streamlining of bureaucracy that characterizes this initiative. Submitted proposals will be evaluated monthly, and decisions will be made within six weeks at the most. For this reason, the program includes two submission deadlines: April 30th and May 28th.. After notification of approval, the financing agreement will be sent within a maximum of one week.

In Portugal, This program is being promoted by the National Scientific Computing Unit of the Foundation for Science and Technology. Therefore, those interested in submitting an application can contact the FCCN team via email c.imagem@fccn.pt, for more information.
