The Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon hosted three training sessions that focused primarily on the Educast service. 

In total, around 120 professionals from the Polytechnic of Lisbon participated in three dedicated sessions to the communication, collaboration and distance learning services of the FCCN Unit. Held between May 19th and 21st, these trainings had as their main focus the service Educast and had an average participation of 40 teachers and technicians from this higher education institution. 

What did these training sessions consist of?

Led by the Multimedia Services Manager of the FCCN Unit, Nélson Dias, the sessions lasted approximately two hours, answering questions such as “How does the Educast platform work?” and “What are the added value for Portuguese Higher Education Institutions?”Demonstrations and best practices were also on the agenda. 

These dedicated sessions aimed to introduce this platform and its main advantages as a teaching and learning support tool. Ultimately, trainees were prepared to create and share content on the platform independently.

Who was the target audience?

The target audience consisted of faculty, e-Learning and Audiovisual teams, as well as professionals from the IT and Communication and Image departments. The presentations were preceded by a introduction to the various multimedia services provided by the FCCN Unit to the national teaching and research community (Colibri, Videocast, FCCN Studio and Video Bank).

About Educast

Remember that, recently, the Educast platform surpassed the mark of 42 thousand videos available on your portal. Health, Law, Social Sciences or Education are some of the areas covered by the videos provided by this FCCN Unit service.

Educast is a service that allows to recordedit and publish educational videos:

  • Recording of educational videos (classes, workshops, events, tutorials).
  • Centralized content manager;
  • Simultaneous capture of video, audio and slides;
  • Web video editor;
  • Publishing in multiple formats (streaming, desktop and mobile);
  • Access portal to produced videos;
  • Integration with Learning Management Systems (Moodle, Blackboard, Sakai, Canvas);
  • Controlled access to content via federated authentication (RCTSaai)

You can record a class, upload it to a central server, edit the videos online, and publish them easily online. This service aims to provide the academic community with a platform dedicated to producing audiovisual and multimedia content, ensuring the necessary post-processing so that recordings are available online in multiple formats: streaming, desktop, and mobile.

Recorded classes can be easily integrated into e-Learning systems, portals, and websites of higher education institutions, and the videos are available through the Educast portal for students and the general public.

The Educast platform also makes available to user entities:

  • One Content Manager, to manage and edit the content produced;
  • One Portal which allows you to search for educational videos in various areas of knowledge;
  • One Help Site with information on conditions of use, adherence and good practices.

And collaboration services…
