The Re.Data consortium held its 4th General Assembly Meeting on February 9th at the University of Minho, within the scope of...National Program for Open Science and Open Research Data (PNCADAI), funded by the measureREC05i08 – Science More Digital, from the Recovery and Resilience Program (PRR).
The session marked the conclusion of the project that enabled the creation of 13 Research Data Management Centers (GDI) and the establishment of the Re.Data consortium as national infrastructures dedicated to supporting the management and FAIRification of research data.
During the workshop, the following were presented:
- The consortium's resultsRe.Data, including the development of strategies and tools to support the adoption of Open Science policies, training initiatives, and advances in research data curation;
- The presentation and demonstration of the servicesPOLLEN, developed by FCT, through its digital services unit FCCN, with emphasis on thePOLEN Blueprint,POLEN DataHubandPOLEN Sync, which reinforce support for institutions throughout the entire research data lifecycle;
- The results ofCenters for GDI, which highlight the impact of local teams in adopting best practices, capacity building, and supporting the scientific communities of their respective institutions.
Results from the National Network
The creation of this National Support Network for Research Data Management (RDM) represented a structuring milestone for Portuguese scientific institutions and communities. Throughout the project, numerous training and capacity-building actions significantly increased awareness of RDM practices within the participating communities, as well as training RDM specialists and... Data Stewards.
They were promoted.webinarsCourses, training programs, specialized resources, and MOOCs can now be more widely disseminated and form a solid foundation for the future development of the field.
In parallel, within the Network, data management and sharing policies were also adopted, curation plans were defined, and new support services for data management were implemented, aligned with the FAIR principles, promoting convergence with international best practices and reinforcing the maturity of institutions in this area.

PNCADAI enters a new strategic phase.
As an essential program for Open Science in Portugal, the PNCADAI (National Program for Access to and Reuse of Scientific Data) is not limited to the funding of the PRR (Recovery and Reliability Program), nor to the work carried out over the last two years. On the contrary, the program establishes a lasting foundation for consolidating the practices of management, openness, and reuse of scientific data in the country. Based on the results achieved and the now consolidated national network—with POLEN assuming a central coordinating role—the PNCADAI enters a new strategic phase, oriented towards the continuity, expansion, and maturation of this ecosystem.
In the coming years, priorities will be defined that will reinforce the adoption of GDI practices in institutions, promote better conditions for access, interoperability and data preservation, and support the sustainable adoption of measures aligned with the FAIR principles. Thus, the PNCADAI will continue to play a fundamental role in the national commitment to Open Science — making it more transparent, more collaborative and better prepared for the digital future and the emerging challenges of artificial intelligence.
