Following this year's edition on Madeira Island, the FCCN 2025 Conference will take place in Coimbra, known as the city of knowledge and students. The meeting of the national higher education and research community will take place on May 6th, 7th and 8th of next year.

The meeting will therefore have the close support of University of Coimbra, the oldest in the country.

The announcement of the 2025 edition

The community attending the meeting learned about the location and date of the next edition at the closing session of FCCN Conference 2024, which were attended by representatives from the University of Coimbra who will be part of the organization team for the next edition.

A video presentation of the University and the city was also revealed, which included a message from Amílcar Falcão, rector of the University of Coimbra.

The future host left a few words about the reception of this event, highlighting its importance at a national level and the added value of being held in Coimbra in 2025.: “This event has proven to be an essential meeting point for sharing information, good practices and technological knowledge over the last few years”, says Amílcar Falcão.

"It is with particular interest that we will host the FCCN Conference in 2025, a forum of the utmost importance for reflection on critical and constantly updated areas, such as connectivity, computing, knowledge sharing and security," he added.

What to expect from FCCN Conference 2025

During the three days of the initiative, hundreds of people are expected to attend the student city, with the expectation of surpassing the 2024 attendance, which had 641 registrations. In this way, it is also expected that the meeting will be closer to the student community, who will be able to participate in the initiative as a volunteer or as a participant.

The FCCN Conferences will also have a positive impact on the region itself, by boosting the local economy and commerce, particularly the hotel industry. The Conferences also promise to bring participants closer to the region's culture, with activities that will take them to visit various places of interest.

FCCN Conferences over the years

With 15 editions already held, this initiative has, over the years, had more than 5,600 participants, around 400 speakers and more than 230 sponsors.

These figures make the FCCN Conferences the annual meeting point for the various communities of managers and users of advanced computing, communication and other digital services platforms provided by the Foundation for Science and Technology, through the FCCN.

The event is aimed at those responsible for IT, library, documentation and/or archive services at HEIs, decision-makers and institutional leaders with these responsibilities, and those responsible for the implementation of science and research units.

Over three days, held in a different region each year, the meeting aims to open and promote dialogue on topics related to FCCN's areas of activity: Connectivity, Computing, Collaboration, Knowledge and Security.

More information about the next edition will be released soon.
