Filesender, the digital service provided by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through FCCN, is 15 years old.

It began as a joint project of the NRENs - National research and education network - of Norway, Australia and Ireland and, after 15 years, FileSender is now available in more than 45 countries.

This is a secure solution that allows you to send and share large files with anyone. With a capacity of 100Gb and a maximum number of 100 recipients, shared content is available for download for 30 days.

The service also makes it possible to transfer files from the EOSC, a European platform and information portal for exploring and boosting collaboration in the field of research.

Evolution over 15 years

  • April 2009 - On this date, the project began as a collaboration that aimed to produce an application for transferring and sharing files only on the web.
  • January 2011 - Filesender 1.0 was launched, allowing large files to be transferred.
  • June 2018 - Launch of Filesender 2.0 with encrypted transfer. This version meant the move from manual to automated testing.
  • March 2020 - Launch of Filesender's new website and image.
  • November 2023 - Launch of beta version 3.0, with a redesigned and updated user interface and experience. This work aimed to renew the user journey and was based on feedback from those who already used Filesender.
