Around 27 million core hours available on the National Advanced Computing Network.
FCT, through its National Scientific Computing Unit (FCCN), announces the opening of the 1st edition of the Advanced Computing Projects Competition, with applications open until 12:00 pm on September 14th, for the first batch of applications submitted.
This is the first competition to provide computing resources totaling approximately 27 million core hours on national platforms integrated into the National Advanced Computing Network (RNCA). The competition aims to promote the submission of Advanced Computing Projects in all areas, which will be technologically supported by the RNCA, using its advanced computing resources.
The RNCA currently incorporates 4 operational centers with their respective platforms that are part of this competition:
- Bob operated by MAAC — Minho Advanced Computing Center (https://macc.fccn.pt/);
- Navigator operated by LCA-UC – Advanced Computing Laboratory of the University of Coimbra (www.uc.pt/lca);
- Oblivion operated by HPC-EU – High Performance Computing from the University of Évora (https://www.oblivion.uevora.pt/);
- Cirrus-A and Stratus operated by INCD – National Distributed Computing Infrastructure (www.incd.pt);
Two access modalities will be available: A1 – Preparatory Access, recommended for all scientific and innovation projects without prior experience in HPC or HTC and/or without a history of using RNCA's computing resources, with a limit of 50,000 core.hours or vCPU_core.hours; and A2 – Project Access, which is intended for the use of HPC, HTC or Cloud Computing resources, for projects with a size greater than 50,000 core.hours or vCPU.hours up to a maximum limit of 3,000,000 core.hours or vCPU.hours.
This competition is part of the National Digital Skills Initiative e.2030 Portugal INCoDe.2030 and is intended individually or in co-promotion for higher education institutions and their R&D (Research and Development) institutes and units; for State or international laboratories based in Portugal; for private non-profit institutions whose main purpose is R&D activities; for other public and private non-profit institutions that develop or participate in scientific research activities and for companies of any nature and under any legal form.
