The new website of the EuroCC Project – National Center of Competence in HPC – aims to provide a set of national skills and training opportunities related to high-performance computing (HPC) in Portugal.
The new virtual space will provide users, researchers, and the general public with a meeting point, sharing, dissemination of activities, and training offerings in HPC at a national level.
Co-financed by European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU), the EuroCC constitutes a European network of competence in High Performance Computing (HPC), which promotes cooperation and the implementation of best practices in this area across Europe.
The overall objective of EuroCC It therefore aims to implement a European support structure, based on National Competence Centers (NCCs), strongly linked to support academia, research, public administration and industry (especially SMEs), in order to benefit from the advantages of specialization, experience and HPC resources available in the geographical area of Europe.
Each competence center is responsible for coordinating HPC expertise at a local (national) level, facilitating access to European opportunities for researchers and public administration, but also for different industrial sectors, providing customized solutions for a wide variety of users.
Since 2020, the Portuguese competence center EuroCC has been coordinated by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), through its FCCN Unit, and integrates several entities partners who, through this project, provide experience and capabilities in supporting the adoption and use of HPC, thus fulfilling the global purpose of EuroCC.
The new website has its address at https://eurocc.fccn.pt/ and gathers all the useful information about the project, from a brief history of HPC in Portugal, going through the identification of the various Operational Centers distributed throughout the country, until the exhibition of multiple use cases, applied within the scope of High Performance Computing.
No less important is the training component also included in the project. All information about available training in the HPC area is available for consultation on this new website.
Some of the highlighted training opportunities mentioned are:
- September 15 – Using supercomputers – from environmental modules to job submission
- October 27-28 – Introduction to parallel computing
- November 17-19 – Introduction to Artificial Intelligence
