THE 2nd edition of the Advanced Computing Competition: Artificial Intelligence in the Cloud, whose applications arise from June 1 to July 26, 2023, will make available $1 million in Google Cloud Platform credits to research, innovation or development projects.
This competition arises within the scope of the collaboration agreement established between FCT and Google, which aims to support research projects in the area of Artificial Intelligence in Portugal. The support translates into the provision of credits for Artificial Intelligence (AI) services on the Google Cloud platform and allows to complement the support already existing and provided by FCT through RNCA – National Advanced Computing Network.
Similar to 1st edition, the aim is to provide support to research and development projects that use the Google Cloud Platform offering in the following areas:
- 80% of the resources are reserved for areas of Natural Language Processing and Ethics in AI;
- 20% of the resources are reserved for the remaining scientific areas using the offer Google Cloud Platform in Artificial Intelligence and data analysis algorithms, or more, if there are not enough applications to fill the quota referred to in the previous point.
If the resources requested in the previously mentioned areas do not exhaust the computing resources available in the competition, the remaining part may be allocated to any other areas.
Candidates must choose the access type that best suits their computing project. Fixed Access accepts projects valued at USD 25,000, while Variable Access accepts projects up to USD 150,000. Candidates must justify their computing resource needs using Google Cloud's online calculator.
Public or private institutions that carry out R&D activities, companies that carry out R&D activities, and individuals operating in Portugal who wish to develop advanced computing projects in any scientific field may apply.
On June 22nd, the event will take place in Lisbon Google Cloud Day Lisbon, where it will be possible to watch keynotes, business talks and technical sessions, carried out by experts from Google Cloud, partners and industry leaders, who will cover a variety of topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data, Security, Sustainability, Productivity and Collaboration.
On June 15th, an online information session will be held so that candidates and interested parties can clarify their doubts. about the typologies and resources in the competition. Details of this session are available in https://rnca.fccn.pt/cpca-iac-info-session-registration/.
