Integration into Fundstat is carried out through the national SciPROJ registry, included in the PTCRIS program – the FCCN Unit initiative that works towards an integrated and coherent scientific and innovation ecosystem, in which information on scientific activity flows between the various systems.
The FCCN Unit has begun the process of integrating the national registry of funding allocated to R&D and Innovation activities in Portugal into Fundstat. This data infrastructure is part of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and brings together information from 22 databases from various countries, including Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Commission.
Fundstat is a platform that enables international analysis and comparison of public funding for R&D and innovation projects, using artificial intelligence tools such as natural language processing. In addition to providing accurate information and indicators on funding, this infrastructure aims to analyze the direction of public funding and identify emerging areas in science and technology.
The collaboration will enable the inclusion of information about Portugal in future studies conducted by the OECD and will provide information on the direction of funding in relevant areas, such as the Green Transition and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The role of PTCRIS
This integration is carried out from the national register of S&T financing, developed within the scope of the program PTCRIS – SciPROJ. This platform aggregates data on national (FCT, QREN, Portugal 2020, and ANI) and international (European Union) funding that supports scientific and technological activities in Portugal.
SciPROJ is part of the objectives of PTCRIS, which focuses on developing a regulatory framework for interoperability and supporting infrastructures aimed at integrating the scientific management systems of various entities within the academic-scientific ecosystem, in close alignment with the principle of "Register once, reuse many." These initiatives are aligned with the open data policy of the FCT and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education (MCTES).
