The European Commission has published a recommendation on a coordinated implementation roadmap for the transition to post-quantum cryptography. This document includes a set of measures that Member States must implement for a synchronized transition, as well as guidelines to ensure that all parties are informed regarding the quantum threat to cryptography.
But what is it about? post-quantum cryptography (PCQ)? In simple terms, is a new type of digital security.
Today, we use algorithms that work very well against regular computers, but which could be broken by quantum computers in the future.
The PCQ is designed to be “quantum-proof”, that is, created based on mathematical problems that even quantum supercomputers cannot solve in a timely manner. This guarantees the protection of personal data, digital services and critical infrastructures (such as banking, energy and healthcare) over the next few decades.
Participating in this consultation is a direct and essential contribution to shaping Europe's digital policies. Each suggestion can influence how we protect data, services, and infrastructure in the future.
Contributions accepted until September 29th (5pm, Lisbon time)
This public consultation aims to gather perspectives, suggestions and comments, both strategic and technical, to compose and improve this transition roadmap. Using the contributions shared in the survey, the next steps for implementing the roadmap will be defined by September 29th.
Organizations from different sectors, cybersecurity experts, regulators, developers, tool users open-source, among others. The application is also open to public and private entities, the academic community, and individual professionals with relevant experience or contributions.
