In November 2021, the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) signed an international cooperation agreement. The aim is to develop joint projects of the curriculum management platforms SCIENCEVITAE and Lattes.

It was through an online session that the cooperation agreement between CNPq and FCT was officially presented. In an event attended by the general coordinator of the Unit FCCN, João Nuno Ferreira, the two parties revealed the ways in which this international collaboration will be carried out, as well as the main objectives.

In addition to sharing experiences and best practices, the collaboration agreement signed provides for active cooperation in the field of normative references, infrastructures and science and technology management services, an area in which the FCT, through its unit FCCN, has invested significantly under the PTCRIS program. One of the first tasks to be carried out will be a feasibility study to replace the software that supports the national Lattes system with the software that supports CIÊNCIAVITAE.

"The FCT and CNPq understood as desirable this international agreement aimed at the compatibilization of the two [curriculum management] platforms used - the Lattes and the CIÊNCIAVITAE," explained CNPq president Evaldo Vilela. "It is hoped that this cooperation will result in the integration of the two platforms, towards a product that can be offered to Portuguese-speaking countries, with potential for expansion to the Ibero-American segment," he added.

This collaboration follows a "history of cooperation in this area that is already old and has been very fruitful", said João Nuno Ferreira. It should be recalled that, in the mid-2000s, the FCT signed an agreement for the use of the Lattes Platform in Portugal and that would be named DeGóis. A few years later, in 2014/2015, it would be FCT's turn to cooperate with the Brazilian Institute for Information in Science and Technology (IBICT) to share experiences and good practices. Regarding the new step now presented, João Nuno Ferreira underlined the mutual benefit it represents: "We have great expectations for the synergies that may result from this joint work".
