The Science Meeting 2021 is the new edition of the annual meeting of science, technology and innovation in Portugal.

The event takes place from 28 to 30 June 2021, at the Lisbon Congress Centre.

This year the guest country is France, which will actively participate in the programme, highlighting the exchange and strong scientific cooperation existing between the two countries.

The theme of the event, "The Science that makes Tomorrow and transforms the Economy", sets the tone for the main themes, challenges and opportunities of science in 2021 that are made in Portugal and in Europe. From the future of employment to space exploration and climate transition, several topics will be addressed to stimulate interaction and dialogue among all participants.

Science 2021 is organised into different types of sessions, from plenary to thematic, and also online papers, demonstrations and posters. The six plenary sessions cover the main dimensions of the event's central theme, addressing issues that are of particular relevance in 2021. In the uncertain context associated with the pandemic of COVID-19, issues such as the positioning of science and the economy in the framework of the Economic Recovery Plan are key. These sessions will feature speakers with internationally recognised careers in their respective areas, and will include, in particular, Portuguese and French speakers, thus highlighting the Luso-French collaboration of the event.

The programme will also include 26 parallel thematic sessions highlighting international partnerships of universities, companies and other national entities. The participation of Portuguese R&D institutions will be particularly active online through papers and demonstrations of R&D activities and posters by doctoral students with scholarships funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology.

The Science 2021 Meeting is promoted by FCT in collaboration with Ciência Viva and with the Parliamentary Committee for Education, Science, Youth and Sports, also counting with the institutional support of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.

In this forum, we hope to enhance the involvement of researchers, entrepreneurs, students and the general public, to promote the discussion of ideas and prepare in a collective effort the future of Science and Technology, both in Portugal and in Europe.

At the end of the event, near the closing session, prizes will be awarded to the winners of the 2021 edition of the Arquivo.pt Prize.
