In November 2021, the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) signed an international cooperation agreement. The objective is to develop joint projects for curriculum management platforms. SCIENCEVITAE and Lattes.

It was through an online session that the cooperation agreement between CNPq and FCT was officially presented. At a moment that was attended by the general coordinator of the FCCN Unit, João Nuno Ferreira, The two parties revealed the terms through which this international collaboration will be carried out, as well as the main objectives.

The signed collaboration agreement provides, beyond sharing experiences and good practices, active cooperation in the field of normative references, infrastructures and science and technology management services, an area in which the FCT, through its FCCN unit, has invested significantly, within the scope of the program PTCRIS. One of the first tasks to perform will be a feasibility study for replacing the software supporting the national system Lattes by the software that supports the SCIENCEVITAE.

The FCT and CNPq considered this international agreement to be desirable, aimed at making the two [curriculum management] platforms used – Lattes and CIÊNCIAVITAE – compatible.”, explained CNPq president Evaldo Vilela. "This cooperation is expected to result in the integration of the two platforms, leading to a product that can be offered to Portuguese-speaking countries, with potential for expansion into the Ibero-American segment," he added.

The collaboration follows a “a history of cooperation in this field that is long-standing and has been very fruitful”, highlighted João Nuno Ferreira. It should be noted that, in the mid-2000s, the FCT signed an agreement to use the Lattes Platform in Portugal, which would later be named DeGóis. A few years later, in 2014/2015, the FCT collaborated with the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT) to share experiences and best practices. Regarding this new step, João Nuno Ferreira emphasized the mutual benefit it represents: “We have high expectations for the synergies that may result from this joint work.”
