Providing technological and digital solutions to national scientists is a fundamental element of the mission of the FCCN Unit of the FCT.

Learn how FCCN services support scientific activity in Portugal.

b-on and RCAAP

These two services of the FCCN Unit occupy complementary positions in the workflow of any researcher.

If, on the one hand, the Online Knowledge Library (b-on) is a way to guarantee unlimited and permanent access to thousands of scientific publications from some of the most important content providers, the RCAAP – Open Access Scientific Repositories in Portugal, it provides a platform for sharing results, with the publication of scientific articles in open access.

This last service accesses several institutional repositories Portuguese and their data is easily searchable using keywords.

It presents a great advantage for scientists and researchers by integrating their scientific production and increasing the dissemination and subsequent visibility of the work developed.

PT Cris

As a structuring program, the work of PT Cris is often invisible. However, through the implementation of this ecosystem, the work of national researchers is becoming simpler, as access to information and management of scientific activity become easier.

This work is based on four fundamental principles: Interoperability (under the motto “use once, reuse forever”), Identifiers (for organizations and researchers), Data (creation of a database for all agents and actions involved) & Curriculum and skills management.

Colibri

The FCCN Unit's videoconferencing service is dedicated to remote collaboration. It's an essential tool for teams to communicate and share knowledge online, with up to 300 participants.

The usefulness of Colibri became especially clear during the context of confinement resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, when the main means of communication between students, teachers, researchers and other professionals in the teaching and research community.

Based on the Zoom platform, the service allows for the sharing of audio, video, text, images, whiteboards, and even participants' screens. Recently, Colibri now allows the use of Zoom Apps, offering several new possibilities.

Educast

In an era where video content assumes particular importance in communicating with the general public, the Educast offers its users the opportunity to record, edit and publish specialized content.

In this sense, this FCCN Unit service can be particularly useful for sharing research results or creating complementary materials for a research project. Furthermore, the Educast portal offers over 43,000 educational videos divided into areas of knowledge, such as Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Technology, or Medicine and Health.

SCIENCE VITAE and SCIENCE ID

An integral part of the PTCris ecosystem, the services SCIENCE VITAE and ID SCIENCE assume a special role in the activity of any scientist.

THE SCIENCE VITAE platform consists of a researcher database that gathers information such as your identifier, training, positions, skills, research area, publications, affiliation, among others, and that allows you to create, generate and promote the curriculum vitae quickly and simply.

The platform currently has 67,616 registered researchers and more than 1 million referenced scientific articles.

CIÊNCIA ID is a system of identification for the national scientific ecosystem, which allows each researcher to authenticate through a single account.

It brings together your entire scientific career, simplifies access, and reduces bureaucracy.

GÉANT Innovation Program

THE GÉANT Innovation Programme is the latest initiative to support innovation of this European network, being promoted in Portugal by the FCCN Unit.

As part of this competition, the European Infrastructure of National Education and Research Networks invited all institutions linked to its community to submit a project proposal for funding.

In total, the GÉANT Innovation Programme supports areas such as networks, cybersecurity and education, and represents an investment of 300 thousand euros.

Each of the projects in the competition will receive support of up to 30 thousand euros for a maximum of nine months.

8 Arquivo.pt

Obtaining credible information is a fundamental task for the work of any scientist and researcher.

THE Arquivo.pt help in this mission, specifically in cases where the necessary records are no longer available online.

Content is not lifelong on the internet and Arquivo.pt guarantees its long-term preservationIt's a way to store and monetize hours of work and prevent your projects from disappearing from the web.

Some examples are: Master's Theses, Scientific Research and even personal portfolios in your areas of interest.

This FCCN Unit service preserves millions of files collected from the web since 1996, and is increasingly used as a source of information for academic and scientific work.

Its usefulness is especially evident in the field of social sciences, with the possibility of diachronic analysis. As of February 2021, this archive had preserved 10.78 billion web files and 27 million websites, totaling 721 terabytes in compressed format.

The Arquivo.pt platform also allows you to search by image. You can access old web pages or even remotely visit places that existed in the past.
